Presentation
Two polythene bottles each containing 45ml of clear, colourless, ginger lemon flavored solution for oral use, with the equivalent 0f 24.4g Sodium Dihydrogen Phosphate Dihydrate Ph Eur and 10.8g Disodium Phosphate Dodecahydrate Ph Eur per 45ml Sodium content = 5.0g per 45ml,. Excipients Glycerol, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Benzoate, ginger lemon flavouring, purified water, the product id sugar free.
Uses
For use as a purgative for bowel cleansing in preparation for surgery or preparing the colon for x-ray or endoscopic examination.
Dosage and Administration
Adults only, One bottle should be taken in the morning and a second in the evening on the day prior to examination, and the patient should have a liquid diet.
The contents of the bottles should be diluted with a glass of water and drunk, followed by a glass of water, followed by another 750mls at mid day. See product leaflet for full details
Contraindications
Fleet is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected gastro intestinal obstruction or ileus, Do not use in patients with congestive heart failure, Hirschsprungs Disease or congenital Megacolon.
Precautions
Do not use when nausea vomiting or abdominal pain are present unless directed by a physician.
Use with caution in patients with impaired renal function, heart disease, colostomy, or on a low salt diet.
Interactions
Use with caution in patients taking calcium channel blockers, diuretics, lithium treatment, or other medication which might effect electrolyte levels.
Overdosage
Recovery from the toxic effects of accidental excess injestion can normally be achieved by rehydration, though intravenous administration of 10% calcium gluconate may be necessary

"Klean Prep
(PEG)

Presentation
An off white powder packed in 4 sachets. Each sachet contains: Polyethylene Glycol 3350 USNF, 59.00g. Sodium Sulphate Ph Eur.5.685g. Sodium Bicarbonate Ph EUR. 1.685g. Sodium Chloride Ph EUR. 1.465g. Potassium Chloride PH EUR 0.7425g. Aspartame USNF. O.0494g.
The contents of each sachet to be reconstituted with 1 litre of water.
Uses
Bowel preparation before colonoscopy, colonic surgery, radiological and other related procedures. 
Indications

Dosage and administration
Reconstituted solution for oral administration.
Adults he contents of each sachet to be reconstituted with 1 litre of water. 250 ml to be drunk rapidly every 10-15 minutes until all the solution has been consumed. The procedure to be repeated with all four sachets or until the rectal effluent is clear. the solution from all four sachets should be drunk in 4 - 6 hours. The solution can be administered by nasogastric tube for which the flow rate should be 20-30ml / minute.
Not recommended for children.
Contraindications
Gastro-intestinal obstruction or perforation, ileus, gastric retention, acute gastric or intestinal ulceration, toxic colitis or magacolon, Patients with a body weight less than 20 kg.
Precautions
Extra care should be taken in patients with impaired gag reflex, reflux oesophagitis, those with diminished consciousness and in ulcerative colitis.
All oral medication should be given at least an hour before administration.
The prepared solution should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours, any unused should be discarded.
Should pain and distension occur the rate of administration should be  slowed.
Careful consideration should be given before administration in pregnancy.
Side Effects
Nausea, abdominal fullness, bloating, abdominal cramps, vomiting, anal irritation, urticaria and allergic reactions have been rarely reported.

"Picolax
Sodium picosulphate

Presentation
Sachets each containing 16.1g of powder for oral administration. Active ingredient Sodium picosulphate 10mg with magnesium citrate formed in solution. Packed in complete treatment packs of 2 sachets.
Uses
For clearance of bowel before examination by radiography, endoscopy or surgery.
Indications

Dosage and administration
Adults, The contents of one sachet are dissolved in a cup of water, stir for 2-3 minutes and drink the mixture after waiting for it to cool. 1st dose 1 sachet before 8.00am on day prior to examination, second sachet between 2-4pm on the day before the examination.
Children 1-2 years 1/4 sachet am 1/4 sachet pm.
Children 2-4 years 1/2 sachet am 1/2 sachet pm.
Children 4-9 years 1 sachet    am   1/2 sachet pm
Over 9 Years as per adult.
A low residue diet is recommended for 2 days prior to examination, and a liberal intake of clear fluids enough to satisfy thirst.
Patients should be warned to expect loose and frequent bowel motions.
Contraindications
General indications to purgative use applies.
Severely reduced renal function.
Precautions
Care should be taken in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and possible intestinal obstruction.
Interactions
Picolax increases gastric intestinal transit rate, which will affect the absorption of other oral medication, care should be taken with patients taking diuretics and cortico steroids, or drugs where hypokaaemia is a particular risk.
Side Effects

Overdoseage
Overdoseage will lead to severe diarrhoea, treatment is supportive and the maintenance of fluid intake.

"Senekot  Tablets"

Presentation
Tablets, small brown tablets engraved on one side with the word Senekot and the other a sword symbol. One tablet contains standardised senna equivalent to 7.5 mg total sennosides calculated as sennoside B. Senekot tablets contain lactose and parabens.
Uses
In the management of constipation, the action being colon specific.
Reduction of faecal residue pre radiographic examinations.
Indications

Dosage and administration
2 Tablets at bedtime
Contraindications
Senekot like all laxatives should not be used when there is undiagnosed acute or persistent abdominal symptoms.

Ensure patient's hydration and electrolyte balance is maintained.

The tablets should be kept in closed airtight containers.
