Carcinomatosis

 


Definition
Carcinomatosis is a  condition resulting from widespread dissemination of carcinoma in multiple sites in various organs or tissues of the body; sometimes also used in relation to involvement of a relatively large region of the body.
 
Radiographic Appearance
The radiographic appearances are dependent on the site/s
 
Pathology
'Carcinomatosis' simply means that there was no definite single pathology; Carcinomatosis is carcinoma that has spread widely throughout the body via the lymphatic system, bloodstream or across the peritoneal cavity
Common sites are: peritoneal, meningeal, lymphatic and chest.
 
Treatment:
Treatment is general symptomatic as the disease is generally well progressed upon diagnosis.
