Kings Lynn Gonad Shields are made of a solid lead plate fully encapsulated in resilient plastic. Simple, effective protection of gonads in both male and female clients, with one simple device. Easy to use, and embarrassment free.

Correct location of the device on the subject is made easy by the shape of the plastic encapsulation. In female subjects the edge of the shield is aligned with the anterior superior iliac spines, which will automatically place the lead shield in the correct position. The lead plate is shaped to the approximate form of the inner pelvis in the frontal view. Any difficulty "balancing" the shield on a protuberant abdomen can easily be overcome by the use of a small foam positioning aid. In male subjects use is even simpler with the plate being inverted and the edge of the shield is related to the symphysis. The use of the shield is a matter of agreement between the radiologist and clinician with reference to the current code of practice. The Kings Lynn Gonad Shield is normally used in AP views of the colon, abdomen and in all but the first AP view of the pelvis or hip in emergency orthopaedic and medical cases.

This shield is made of a durable, almost totally radiolucent plastic with a horizontal flange to stabilise the shield. The central plate encapsulates the shaped 2.0 mm thick lead shield.
