Skull

General Considerations

Radiography of the skull is an important area of radiography, typically representing a workload of 3000 per 100,000 (3%) examinations in a typical general hospital, with the majority of them (90%) performed in the A/E department. In recent years the advent of CT has considerably reduced the requirements of skull radiography, hence the withdrawal from the market of specialist skull units as the Siemens Orbix and Phillips Pendostat. To this end I shall describe basic techniques for Skull and facial bones only.
